Dr. Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameshwarm (Tamil Nadu) in a middle-class Tamil family. There was no very good formal education of Dr. Kalam’s father Janaulabdin. They were financially general but intelligent and generous. His father used to work with a local contractor to make wooden boats which used to take Hindu pilgrims from Rameswaram to Dhanushkotti.
