HONEY IS THE NECTAR OF SPRING

ONE OF NATURE’S MOST REMARKABLE GIFTS TO MANKIND

Honey is well known for its positive health benefits. So, thanks to its high mineral and vitamin contents. Unfortunately, not all the honey sold  at the market is perfectly pure.

Ayurveda is a truly empowering traditional science of health, healing and living in harmony with our environment. It usually evolved within the sacred tradition of the Vedas. And it is closely linked with yoga. According to Ayurveda, Honey actually has an amazing ability to help clean up the sickness that gets accumulated in our body’s fine channels during the winter. This is because it is  actually somewhat astringent, and it has a drying effect in our bodies. At the same time, it’s a remarkable tonic for our body, mind and senses.

In Ayurveda, honey is  “Madhu’’. And its qualities are explained as follows.

“It has sweetness (madhura rasa) with added astringent as end taste (Kashaya anu rasa). It is usually heavy (guru guna), dry (rukha) and cold (sheeta). Its effect on doshas is as follows. It also aggravates vata, scrapes kapha an normalizes pitta and rakta. It promotes healing process.’’

Natural pure honey tends to naturally crystallize over time and becomes granular in structure. But often honey is adulterated. And many brands of honey that you might get at a shop near you might be mixed with glucose solutions or low-quality honeys with a high water content, because the honey has been taken from cells that are not properly covered with wax. Some of the brands might even use high-fructose corn syrup or commercial glucose as ingredients and mention them in the list of ingredients. These indicators show that the honey is adulterated in nature.
